Do you want to be part of a community? Do values based in social justice, environmental sustainability, creativity, vegetarianism, and open communication sit well with you? You need not have experience in a co-op, we’re looking only for people who share our values and bring energy and enthusiasm to our home.
Our house is part of Boston Community Cooperatives, an organization formed to build community through cooperative living, member education, neighborhood improvement, and collective action. We’re a group-equity co-op, which means that we all pay in a small ($565) member share to join that is returned when a member moves out. The house is owned by BCC rather than by individuals.
We share vegetarian dinners, chores, house meetings and food purchases. We enjoy eating good food, having good conversations, and spending time together as a community while also making room for our own lives and space.
The Seed Pod Co-op is in the Fields Corner area (very close to the Red Line T station) and is a big triple decker with lots of porches, common space, and room to be creative and transform the space into what we want. We currently have 12 people and two cats (the cats are contained to one floor of the house so not to have a large effect on those with allergies).
Rooms cost between $495 and $611 monthly for rent and $50 for utilities/month plus money for shared food/supplies ($135/month).
If this seems interesting to you, please get in touch! We’d love to have you over for dinner (the first step in getting to know us). We can be reached at 617-436-2965 or you can email us at membership@bcc.coop.
We also encourage you to check out bostoncoop.net, which lists a number of other housing coops in the Boston area.
The Boston Coop Network mailing list has regular postings from coops with openings in the Boston area, as well as people looking for coops.
